It might be easy to think that all you need to sell your products on Amazon is a product and an image. However, there are certain requirements for packing and labeling, and if you do not follow the rules, you might face fines or even suspension from selling your products.

Amazon FBA Labeling Requirements

Any product labeling that is used in collaboration with Amazon FBA must adhere to their rules, including:

1. Labels must be printed in black and white

All labels must be printed in black and white as per Amazon’s requirements. Additionally, removable adhesive and non-reflective labels are required. The general size of labels must measure between 1 by 2 inches and 2 by 3 inches for more prominent labels. Amazon provides these labels within their seller help center.

2. Spacing on barcode labels

There must be white space around the barcode on labels that are printed and attached to packages, with an SKU number or ASIN included in the label. These specifics should be followed by the product name and the product’s condition. Businesses must provide a UPC barcode that adheres to the GS1 standard if they want to add their own barcodes to the packages.

3. Correct printer usage

Utilizing the right kinds of printers is crucial when printing Amazon labels. Laser printers are suitable and the most popular for small to medium businesses. Thermal printers can also be used with Amazon’s labels. It is not recommended to use inkjet printers as they may make text more difficult to read in certain cases. The labels should be scannable for up to 24 months. In order for printers to print at the required quality (300 DPI), they need to be routinely checked and cleaned.

4. Placement of labels

Businesses should ensure that the products have the correct barcode before applying labels to the packaging. There should not be any other barcodes around or on top of any preparation items. Labels should not be applied to the package’s curves or corners. To ensure that there are no complications while shipping, there must be a 0.25-inch gap between the label and the package.

Amazon FBA Packaging Requirements

Sellers must utilize specific Amazon packages when sending products to Amazon fulfillment centers (before they are shipped to customers). These consist of:

1. Standard box packaging requirements

If you are shipping an item in a standard box, the dimensions must be accurate in order for the item to fit correctly. Moreover, the box must pass a three-foot drop test to ensure structural integrity and will not break or blow up upon impact. If it fails to pass this test, the item must be put in a poly bag.

2. Poly bags

The main purpose of poly bag packaging is to protect the product and keep the outside environment away from it. The success of poly bag packaging depends on certain requirements that must be met.

Poly bag packaging is a popular alternative to traditional packaging. However, letting small children handle poly bags might be dangerous. A suffocation label must be imprinted on the poly bag as a result of this. In addition, the bags must be transparent and at least 1.5 millimeters thick. The contents inside cannot protrude out of the bag.

3. Blister packs

Smaller items that require cleaning and sterilization are stored in blister packs—for instance, pills and toothbrushes. Other items like pens and markers can also be used with them.

When shipping your items, it is important to pick the right packaging. If Amazon feels that the packaging is inappropriate for the product, errors or damage may happen during the shipment process, resulting in delays and maybe even order cancellation.

Conclusion

It does not have to be difficult to ship your products to Amazon. All you need to do is follow Amazon’s guidelines and you will not encounter any issue shipping your products to Amazon FBA.

Selling on Amazon may be a great way for businesses to reach a wide audience for their products. Therefore, being aware of the labeling guidelines and requirements that Amazon is enforcing will help you streamline your supply chain operations and prevent any expensive product recalls or quality assurance difficulties with Amazon as a seller.
