What Are The Different Positions At Amazon Warehouse?

Share this post :

There are different types of Amazon warehouses, each serving its own purpose in the logistics chain. Here are some of the positions available at these different Amazon warehouses.

Fulfillment Center Associate

You will be part of the Amazon warehouse team that gets orders ready for customers relying on Amazon’s services. These fast-paced, active roles take place in various areas, including merchandise, make-on-demand, customer returns, and general fulfillment — in some cases, for super-fast (2-hour or less) delivery service.

Some of your duties and responsibilities may include:

  • Receive and put away inventory
  • Get customer orders ready and pack them up
  • Load boxes onto trucks for shipment
  • Use scanners to read bar codes on boxes
  • View prompts on screens and follow directions for some tasks
  • Troubleshoot problems
  • Ensure product meets quality requirements
  • Operate Power Industrial Trucks (PIT) and work at heights of up to 35 feet. (Training provided)

Sortation Center Associate

You will be part of the dedicated Amazon team, which is the first stop on the journey from the warehouse. These fast-paced, active roles take place in a sortation center. You will be sorting, scanning, and stacking packages on pallets and helping to get customer orders ready for delivery. This role puts you in control of your schedule because you choose shifts that work best for you now and have the ability to adjust your schedule in the future, as needed.

Some of your duties and responsibilities may include:

  • Receive and sort inventory
  • Get customer orders ready for delivery
  • Use technologies like computers and smartphones, manage apps, and scan bar codes

Delivery Station Associate

You will be part of the dedicated Amazon team at the delivery station – the last stop before delivering smiles to customers. These fast-paced, physical roles receive trucks full of orders and then prepare them for delivery. You will load conveyor belts and transport and stage deliveries to be picked up by drivers. You may even be part of the team that is trained to use technology to handle heavy bulk items such as large-screen TVs, furniture, and appliances.

Some of your duties and responsibilities may include:

  • Receive and prepare inventory for delivery
  • Use technologies like smartphones and handheld devices to sort, scan, and prepare orders
  • Receive truck deliveries
  • View prompts on screens and follow directions from some tasks
  • Build, wrap, sort and transport pallets and packages

XL Warehouse Associate

You will be part of the Amazon XL Warehouse team that handles the big stuff — those unique customer orders that weigh over 50 pounds: big screen TVs, furniture, appliances, and more. You will be trained on how to use technology to handle these heavy bulk items. Even if you have not been a “power” player before, that will not limit you from gaining valuable job experience because – depending on the site – you may be trained to be a heavy equipment operator, using powered industrial trucks (PIT) such as a forklift or pallet driver. Many shifts will have you at the helm of power equipment getting orders ready for customers, but other times you will be on the warehouse floor of fulfillment centers, sortation centers, or delivery stations working with your teammates, tackling those hands-on items that need expert handling before they are sent along their delivery route.

Some of your duties and responsibilities may include:

  • Load boxes into trucks for shipment
  • Depending on the site, you may operate powered industrial trucks (PIT) that reach heights up to 35 feet (Equipment training and certification are provided free of cost)
  • Receive, sort, and put away heavy and bulk inventory
  • Use technology such as computers and smart phones
  • View prompts on screens and follow direction for some tasks

Distribution Center Associate

You will be part of the team helping pack, stow, and stage same-day deliveries of groceries and essential household items. This job will require you to be hands-on — packing, lifting, and moving boxes. Some roles may involve working in refrigerated and freezing environments.

Some of your duties and responsibilities may include:

  • Lifting and moving boxes
  • Operate power industrial trucks (PIT), and work at heights of up to 35 feet (Equipment training and certification are provided free of cost)
  • Receive and put away grocery inventory in room-temperature, chiller, and frozen sections of the warehouse, working at temperatures as low as -10°F for periods of your shift
  • Use technology like computers and smart phones

Grocery Warehouse Associate

You will be part of the Amazon grocery team that supports one of Amazon’s busiest services: online grocery orders. You will be working in a grocery warehouse, but it is not like their other bigger buildings. It is more like the size of a grocery store. Amazon offer customers everything from cereal to ice cream to fresh flowers, so you will be preparing orders, working in different environments – including refrigerated and freezer spaces for part of your shift. It can be cold, but they will provide you with the right gear to stay warm.

Some of your duties and responsibilities may include:

  • Prepare grocery orders for delivery
  • Intake new grocery inventory and put away
  • Rotate tasks throughout the week
  • Use technology like computers and smartphones to manage apps and scan bar codes
  • Check for order quality

Amazon Air Associate

You will be joining Amazon Air and be part of the dedicated team that loads cargo from the warehouse onto the aircraft – helping to ensure customers receive their orders on time. Plus, you will gain experience in a new industry that is transferable for an air cargo career. It is a great way to launch a career, and Amazon provides all training.

Some of your duties and responsibilities may include:

  • Load and unload aircraft and trucks
  • Remove tie-downs and other gear when loading and unloading
  • Prepare packages for sortation and load onto containers
  • Weigh, label, or make/break-down gaylords or air-containers

Amazon has dozens of warehouses throughout the US and hundreds of job openings every day. Consider Amazon as an excellent choice if you are looking for a warehouse job with opportunities.
